How to sell your FTX claim: step by step

Key facts

  • When you sell an FTX claim, you sell the right to all future distributions on it. Distributions already paid to you stay yours.
  • The buyer files the transfer in FTX's bankruptcy case (No. 22-11068) under Bankruptcy Rule 3001(e). You then have 21 days to object. If you don't, the buyer takes your place.
  • FTX pays a buyer in a round only if the transfer is on the official claims register at the record date and the 21 days have passed without objection.
  • FTX has paid five rounds. After the fifth, on 31 July 2026, FTX.com customer claims have received 105% in total. A sixth round has not been announced.
  • With Paxtibi, you are paid at signing. The court part runs afterwards.
  • Facts as of 28 October 2026.

Selling an FTX claim takes days, not months, if you check four things first and file the transfer in time for the next record date. Below are the checks, the six steps, how the court transfer works, the timing, the costs and how to avoid scams. Paxtibi buys FTX claims, so read this as a guide from an interested party; every rule links to its source.

How to sell your FTX claim: step by step

What you are selling

An FTX customer claim is your right to receive distributions from the FTX Recovery Trust under the bankruptcy plan. It is a claim in US dollars, based on what your account was worth when FTX filed for bankruptcy in November 2022.

FTX pays in rounds. This is what each class has received so far, according to FTX's release of 17 July 2026:

ClassFifth round (31 July 2026)Total so far
5A: FTX.com customers9%105%
5B: FTX US customers5%105%
6A and 6B: general unsecured and digital asset loan claims3%103%
7: convenience claims—120%

When you sell, the buyer pays you now for the distributions FTX still has to make on your claim. The price therefore depends on how much the buyer expects FTX to pay later, and when. To see your claim's amount and class, enter your Customer Code in our FTX claim calculator.

Before you sell: check four things

#What to checkWhereWhy it matters
1Claim statusStep 5 of the FTX Customer Portal, or the Kroll claims registerAn "Allowed" claim is the simplest to sell. A disputed or not-yet-allowed claim can still be sold, but it is reviewed case by case.
2Your KYCStep 3 of the portalFTX pays a transferred claim only if the original holder passed KYC. Claims in the Trust's 200th omnibus objection whose KYC was not submitted by 30 June 2026 were expunged (D.I. 35557, D.I. 36065).
3What you have receivedStep 9 (Distributions Dashboard)The buyer pays only for what is left. Have your payment history ready.
4Any forfeited roundSteps 7 and 8, and FTX's emailsFTX tells buyers to "confirm with Original Holders that any prior distributions have not been forfeited". A forfeited round does not come back with the transfer.

If your last payment did not arrive, see FTX 5th distribution not received first.

The six steps of a sale with Paxtibi

1. Get a quote.

  • Send us your FTX Customer Code from the portal.
  • We reply within 24 hours, and the offer is valid for 48 hours.
  • The code alone does not tell us who you are.

2. Accept and complete KYC.

  • We verify your identity through Sumsub.
  • You send the claim documents we ask for and choose how you want to be paid.

3. Sign the agreement and get paid.

  • You sign the claim assignment agreement through DocuSign.
  • You are paid at signing, in crypto (BTC, ETH, XRP, USDT, USDC) or fiat.

4. We file the transfer.

  • We file evidence of the transfer in case 22-11068 under Bankruptcy Rule 3001(e).
  • The court fee is $28 per transferred claim. We pay it.

5. The 21-day notice period.

  • Under the rule, you are notified that the transfer has been filed and have 21 days to object. If you don't object, the court substitutes the buyer for you.
  • Kroll, the court's claims agent, then records the buyer on the claims register.
  • You don't need to do anything.

6. After the sale.

  • Future distributions go to the buyer once the transfer is on the register.
  • Step 9 of the portal is not available for traded claims.
  • Keep the agreement and the payment confirmation for your tax records.

Timing: sell before the record date

FTX pays each round to the holders on the claims register at the record date. For a transferred claim, the 21-day period must also have passed without objection. So the transfer has to be filed at least 21 days before the record date, plus a few days for filing and processing.

In past rounds, FTX announced the record date 3 to 7 weeks in advance, and paid 45 to 49 days after it (see our record-date article). As of 28 October 2026, FTX has not announced a sixth record date.

Our estimate, not FTX's, is a record date around mid-December 2026 and a payout around late January 2027. On that estimate, a transfer should be filed by late November. The court's next omnibus hearings are on 19 November and 17 December 2026.

If you sell after a record date, that round is paid to you as the original holder, provided your portal steps are complete. The buyer then prices the claim without it.

What it costs

  • The price is a discount to your claim's remaining value. What moves it:
  • the class and status of the claim;
  • its size;
  • the time to the next round;
  • whether you live in a restricted country.
  • No separate seller fee. The price we quote is what you receive.
  • The $28 court fee for the transfer is paid by us.
  • Taxes depend on your country of residence. Ask a tax adviser.
  • Our country pages cover the local tax rules for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
  • If you would rather keep the value of future rounds, payment processing is the alternative to a sale:
  • we forward each distribution to you;
  • our success fee is charged only on what is recovered.

Partial, disputed and restricted-country claims

  • Part of a claim. For larger claims, we can review a partial sale. You keep the rest and receive its distributions.
  • Disputed or not yet allowed. You can still request a quote. We review these claims case by case. See FTX disputed claims.
  • You live in a restricted country.
  • You can sell even if Step 8 offers no provider in your country. The buyer receives the distributions.
  • See FTX restricted jurisdictions 2026 and our pages for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, China and Macau, and Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
  • The Bahamas process. This guide covers claims in the US process. If you chose the Bahamas process (FTX Digital Markets), ask us before you start.

How to avoid scams

  • Never pay upfront. A buyer pays you, not the other way round.
  • Never share your FTX portal login, 2FA codes, seed phrases or private keys. FTX says it "will never ask you to connect your wallets".
  • Check the buyer:
  • Find the company in its official company register.
  • Ask the buyer for a transfer it has already filed in the FTX case, and look it up on Kroll's docket.
  • Get the price and the payment terms in writing before you send any documents.
  • More checks: How to verify that a claim buyer is legitimate.

Who is buying your claim

FAQ

Can I sell part of my FTX claim?

Yes, for larger claims. Paxtibi can review a partial sale, so you get cash now for part of the claim and keep receiving distributions on the rest.

Do I need KYC to sell my FTX claim?

Yes. FTX pays a transferred claim only if the original holder has passed KYC in the FTX portal, and the buyer also verifies your identity. Paxtibi uses Sumsub.

Can I sell a disputed FTX claim?

Yes. You can request a quote for a disputed or not-yet-allowed claim. Paxtibi reviews these claims case by case, and the price reflects the risk that the claim is reduced.

What happens if FTX pays after I sell?

If the transfer is on the claims register at the record date and the 21-day notice period has passed, FTX pays the buyer. A round whose record date came earlier is paid to you as the original holder. Your agreement says who keeps it, so check that clause before you sign.

How long does it take to sell an FTX claim?

Paxtibi replies with a quote within 24 hours, and the offer is valid for 48 hours. You are paid at signing, once KYC is complete. The court transfer then takes at least 21 days, but you don't wait for it.
